The chart below shows how waiting longer to begin saving for retirement requires saving a greater percentage of your salary in order to end up with approximately the same sized nest-egg. In other words, regardless of what size nest-egg you'd like to have, waiting until you're 35 to begin saving requires saving almost twice as much as that needed if you start at age 25! And it gets worse. Waiting until age 45 or 55 means having to save as much as over eight times more than that needed if you start at age 25.
